Counterfeit Payment Code
Definition
A counterfeit payment code is a printed parking or charger QR code placed by a scammer to divert payments.
In context
A driver can believe a parking or charging payment succeeded while the real operator receives no payment. The related filing compares payments for individually identified printed codes with independent evidence of vehicle presence, including plate reads and charger states. It also addresses protecting drivers who paid a scammer.
Example
As a general example, a scammer's code on a parking sign could send a driver to a payment destination that is not the operator's. That illustrates the meaning of the term, not a reported incident or a measured result from the filing.
